For years, WWII 101st Airborne paratroopers have been one of the most popular subjects among custom military LEGO creators. Yet capturing the distinctive uniforms, equipment, markings, and individual variations of the men who jumped into Normandy has remained a challenge. This collection is my attempt to finally do them justice.
Rather than producing a single standardized figure, these paratroopers are offered as a random selection, reflecting the confusion and dispersion that characterized the Normandy drop, where men from different Parachute Infantry Regiments could find themselves scattered far from their intended drop zones.
Your purchase may include a figure representing the 506th PIR, as well as unique variants depicting men of the 2nd and 3rd Battalions of the 502nd PIR. Every figure features a fully printed BrickArms M1 helmet with the distinctive net and scrim associated with the 101st Airborne in Normandy, along with appropriate unit and rank insignia. Where applicable, rank markings are even positioned to peek through the helmet netting.
The equipment and weapon artwork is matched to the ranks and roles being depicted. The collection includes multiple rifleman configurations, support personnel armed with M1 Carbines, NCOs carrying Thompson submachine guns, and a limited number of officers - creating a level of variety far beyond any previous offerings.
I've also incorporated details unique to the 502nd PIR, including the white scarf worn by men of the 1st Battalion and the scarf folded into a cord over the left shoulder by men of the 2nd Battalion.
One of the most distinctive details is the black face paint applied by the 101st Airborne before the jump into France. Rather than using a generic pattern, each face-paint design was recreated from original wartime photographs, giving every variation a direct connection to the historical record.
And the variety doesn't stop there. The current artwork across legs, torsos, heads, and helmets creates thousands of possible minifigure combinations - giving this collection more potential combinations than the total number of 101st Airborne paratroopers who jumped into Normandy early on June 6, 1944.
Every figure is designed to feel like an individual soldier - not simply another copy of the same paratrooper. From the helmet netting and unit markings to the weapons, rank details, scarf variations, and hand-traced face paint, this collection is built around the small details that made the men and accomplishments of the 101st Airborne unique.
